Darrel is married to Claudia (his childhood sweetheart) and they live with their adult son, Khaya, who is 21 years old. Born and bred in Cape Town, Darrel moved to Gauteng when he got married in 2014.
An encounter with Jesus in 1990, changed his life, even though he had been involved at church since a very young age. After having served on a missionary team in 1995, he was convinced that God was calling him to ministry with young people and pursued that as a career.
After completing his Bachelor’s degree in Theology at George Whitfield College, he joined Scripture Union as fulltime staff, leading their Missions team for 3 years before becoming the Area Coordinator of their Wellington office in the Western Cape where he served until the end of 2010.
Darrel is convinced that ministry to young people is an important part of what the church should be involved in, as it is during these years that we can have an impact on their faith and lay a good foundation for their Scriptural knowledge. His vision is to ultimately train parents to be the primary source of Scriptural knowledge and ministry to their children.
